2 die in violent clash

Lagos - Two people, one of them a policeman, were killed during a fracas between supporters of rival traditional rulers in central Nigeria's town of Ilorin, police said on Monday.
"A police corporal and a civilian were shot dead during the violence," said Kwara state police spokesperson Gideon Marcus.
He said fighting broke out on Sunday when the supporters of the Aare Mogaji took to the streets to protest his removal by the Emir of Ilorin Alhaji Sulu Gambari.
"The emir had appointed his ally to replace the deposed chief but his people resisted the move and this led to fighting," he said.
Marcus said anti-riot policemen were drafted to quell the fighting.
"One officer died in the fracas while another person was also killed," he added.
He said the police have brought the situation under control.
